Salix acutifolia - Long-leaved Violet
                                or Sharpleaf Willow
A very ornamental species with the new growth
being first incredibly red, then turning white
the next year. Older bark has a fine netted pattern.
The silver catkins appear on dark branches before
the leaves come out. For winter enjoyment, place
in front of a dark background (eg. a wall or dark
evergreens). Native to Poland, Russia and into
                                east Asia.
Used for shelterbelts on the Prairies.
