Salix petiolaris - Slender Willow, Meadow Willow
Native to the eastern to midwest of North America and found
along streambanks and wet meadows. Does poorly in alkaline
soil, but tolerates poor soil. A good shrub for the woodland
edge or in dappled shade.
Description: large shrub with many stems;
4-8 m (13-25'); purplish new growth; large 10 cm long leaves;
leaves are dark green above and grey underneath
Ideal conditions: full sun to dappled shade;
moist soil but drought tolerant once established; found in
nature along streams and in low, moist areas
Uses: basketry, living willow structures,
furniture, steambank erosion control
